Simple wood platform bed is popular in Europe, Scandinavia and Japan. Platform height is the most important decision to make as it determines the overall height when you add the mattress. This makes the mattress an important factor as well. The material used to build the platform bed does not have to be solid wood; plywood works just as well. Determine the desired height of your simple wood platform bed. Construct for the frame of the platform bed with solid wood if the height is less than 11 ½ inches. If it’s more than 11 ½, inches, rip four pieces of plywood with a table round saw or round saw to make the four frame pieces.

As an alternative, attach a piano hinge to an edge of plywood and the frame with the supplied screws with piano hinge and a variable speed drill and screw tip. This gives access to storage space that would otherwise be unavailable. Arrange as many pieces of solid timber as necessary to cover the top of the frame. These pieces serve the same purpose as plywood mentioned before. Secure the timber to the frame with finish nails or screws.
